For high performance and long product life, choose 3M™ Cubitron™ II 723D Cloth Tape. Our cloth tapes feature premium aluminum oxide blended with 3M™ Precision Shaped Mineral for increased durability and cutting action compared to non-ceramic abrasives. The flexible cotton cloth backing easily follows contours, contouring the edges of the part to prevent over-grinding, making these cloth tapes ideal for removing defects and surface irregularities on narrow, contoured or intricate parts such as medical equipment. Their flexibility makes them ideal for applications that use lightweight contact wheels or loose belts. The science behind 3M Precision Shaped Mineral Precision Shaped Mineral is a major breakthrough in abrasive technology. PSG is a ceramic mineral that we engineered to improve the strength and durability of the mineral through proprietary processes. Through meticulous work, 3M scientists have taken this mineral one step further, consistently shattering itself into a uniform triangular-shaped mineral that forms super-sharp points and sharp edges. This means it has the power to cut through the surface rather than gouging or “slipping” like traditional abrasives. PSG provides super-fast cutting speed, reducing heat build-up in the workpiece, which can lead to stress cracking and discoloration. In addition, PSG stays cool and sharp, giving it a longer life than traditional abrasives. To enhance performance, 723D belts feature 3M PSG blended with premium aluminum oxide, increasing the abrasive’s sharpness and extending its life. In addition to consistent performance, it also has up to twice the life of competitive aluminum oxide belts. Lower cost per finished part means less time spent changing belts, resulting in increased productivity. Loading is when wood or paint dust clogs the belt’s surface and abrasive points, rendering the belt ineffective. Open-coated layup means the abrasive mineral is spaced at small intervals to allow dust and debris to escape and move away from the disc rather than causing abrasive loading. Open-coated abrasives have a more aggressive cut than their equivalents in closed-coated abrasives. The abrasive is bonded firmly to the backing with resin, which makes it durable at high temperatures and pressures. For over 100 years, 3M has been a leading provider of abrasives to the metalworking industry. No matter what type of grinding and finishing you are doing, 3M offers a full line of quality abrasives in coated and bonded forms. 3M engineers designed these cloth tapes to provide the flexibility needed for complex parts, along with fast cutting and long-lasting performance. They are an excellent choice when a finishing tape is required for production environments.
